Where every digit lives
A place value chart does one thing worksheets can’t: it holds still. Write 4,352 into the columns and the 3 visibly lives in the hundreds house — the same digit, worth different amounts in different columns, which is the entire idea of our number system. The periods are color-coded (thousands blue, ones green) so the three-digit rhythm of big numbers shows at a glance.
Eight blank rows give room to build the numbers from today’s lesson, dictate numbers to write, or compare two numbers column by column. Flip on the decimal side and the chart grows a point column (“and”) plus pink tenths and hundredths — the version 4th grade needs, on the same familiar chart.
