Thinking made visible
A graphic organizer does one job: it gives a thought somewhere to go. A student who stares at a blank page when asked to compare two animals will fill a Venn diagram without hesitating, because the shape asks smaller questions — what is only true here, what is only true there, what is true of both.
Eight layouts cover most of what gets assigned: Venn diagram and compare-and-contrast for comparison, KWL for before-and-after reading, story map for narrative, main idea web for supporting details, sequence chain for order, cause and effect for consequences, and a plain T-chart for everything else. Turn writing lines on for younger students or off for older ones who want the whole box.
