Why ten frames work
A ten frame turns a number into a picture: 7 is a full row of five and two more, 8 is two empty squares away from ten. Children stop counting one-by-one and start seeing quantities in relation to 5 and 10 — the foundation for mental addition and place value in every Kindergarten and 1st-grade curriculum.
