One letter, one sound, one box
CVC words — consonant, vowel, consonant — are where decoding starts, because every letter says exactly one sound. Each word on the sheet comes with its picture, so the child says the word, stretches the sounds, and writes one letter per box. Every word in the pool is a true CVC word with a short vowel: cat, bed, pig, log, sun.
Missing-vowel mode prints the consonants and leaves only the middle box empty — the classic first step, since the vowel is the hardest sound to hear. Switch to spell-the-word mode when all three boxes are ready to be earned. Shuffle deals fresh words every time, and the key fills every box in green.
