College Ruled vs Wide Ruled vs Narrow Ruled

The three main ruling standards differ by line spacing: college ruled (7.1 mm) is the most common standard for high school and university students, wide ruled (8.7 mm) provides extra space for younger students and larger handwriting, and narrow ruled (6.35 mm) fits more lines per page for dense note-taking.

Specialized Formats

Legal pad paper recreates the classic yellow pad look with blue lines and a red margin. Primary ruled paper includes dashed midlines to guide letter formation. Gregg ruled paper has a center vertical line for shorthand notation. Cornell lined paper uses the proven Cornell note-taking method with cue column and summary section. Story paper combines a blank drawing area with ruled writing lines.
